My custom backrest is quite comfy however I learned a very valuable lesson on the ride. The backrest merely sits inside the bracket without any bolt or means of securing it.
The Problem: I had a couple bungees on the bars of the backrest and after about 50 miles at 70mph, my backrest popped up. Scared the holy hell out of me.
Temporary Solution: I pulled over immediately and did 2 things…
1) Rearranged my bungees to remove tension on the backrest.
2) Used bungees to secure the backrest until I could get a better solution.
Permanent Solution: My Daddy drilled two holes and created threads in bracket. Then he bolted the backrest in.
Another piece of education… Always be sure to double check your tire pressure often when you’re going through varied climates and altitudes. PSI can be affected at just about 1psi per 10 degrees.
