In the fall of 2011 I rode with 5 of my friends for the Ride Around Lake Michigan. From Chicago, up the Michigan side, and down the Wisconsin side, we totalled about 1100 miles. The trip itself was a blast even in the cold and rain, but seriously this a trip that should take a week or more and if possible to simply do the Michigan side at once and then the Wisconsin side another time. There is just so much to see and so much beautiful riding that a holiday weekend did not do it justice.
During our trip we stayed at 3 different hotels and the best by my account was the Days Inn Lakeview in Mackinaw City, MI. This is not a super duper fancy place but it had all we needed and was very clean. The prices on the holiday weekend were very affordable, the service staff was nice, and the food was good.
The entire city of Mackinaw is biker friendly and a favorite destination for many bikers, cyclists, boaters, and vacationers of all sorts. Mackinaw City is definitely a wonderful place to visit and I’d have no problem returning to the Days Inn Lakeview.
Mackinaw City Chamber of Tourism has a very nice website with all you need to know… Check it out before you plan your trip.
